God of War: Ascension is a prequel to the popular PlayStation-exclusive hack and slash action saga GoW. Launched exclusively for PS3, it sits chronologically at the beginning of the series, just six months after Kratos murdered his wife and daughter. Throughout his campaign, we discover the origins of the Spartan soldier who sells his soul to Ares, god of war, and wields the swords of Chaos to face Olympus.
For the first time in the series, the God of War: Ascension title includes an eight-player multiplayer mode divided into teams of four. Although the protagonist is not eligible for this mode, it is possible to customize the equipment of the warriors and swear allegiance to different gods that grant different styles of play. It also has a sort of single player horde mode.
